Working with gold is a commitment. Working with vermeil is a choice of precision. At our workshop, both materials are approached with the same level of care and craftsmanship.
Here, we take the time to explore their specificities and to share our vision, at Monsieur Paris, of what precious materials represent.
Gold: A Precious Metal in its Most Noble Form
Gold is a rare metal, valued for its stability, longevity, and timeless brilliance. At Monsieur Paris, we work exclusively with 18k recycled gold, certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). This choice reflects our commitment to responsible jewellery-making, mindful of both resources and craftsmanship.
18k gold contains 75% pure gold, combined with metals like silver and copper to ensure strength and durability over time. Unlike 24k gold — too soft for everyday wear — 18k gold offers the perfect balance between the nobility of the material and long-lasting quality.
Why 18k Gold?
There are different gold standards, depending on their pure gold content:
- 24k gold (99.9% pure): too soft for everyday jewellery
- 18k gold (75% pure): the standard of fine jewellery — durable and radiant
- 14k gold (58.5%) or 9k gold (37.5%): more affordable but less precious
At Monsieur Paris, we exclusively use 18k gold. For its quality, its resilience, and for what it embodies: demanding craftsmanship designed to stand the test of time.
Vermeil: A Precious and Responsible Alternative
Vermeil is a precious metal officially recognized by French law. It is made of solid sterling silver (925) coated with a thick layer of 18k gold, at least 5 microns thick.
At Monsieur Paris, this gold-plating process is carried out in Paris, by a trusted partner workshop chosen for their precision and expertise. The look of vermeil is very close to solid gold — the same warm tone, the same subtle shine — allowing us to create precious-looking pieces at a more accessible price.
Care Instructions: Preserving Your Jewellery
- 18k Gold Jewellery: Perfect for daily wear, even in water. Gold does not oxidize or tarnish. A soft cloth is all you need to restore its shine if necessary.
- Vermeil Jewellery: Requires more care. We recommend avoiding water, perfume, cosmetics, and prolonged friction. When not worn, store your jewellery in its box or a soft pouch, away from humidity.
We offer a care service at our workshop to restore the full beauty of your pieces, whether in gold or vermeil.
Two Materials, the Same Commitment to Excellence
Whether you choose gold or vermeil, every Monsieur Paris piece is crafted with the same high standards: minimalist design, artisanal know-how, and a direct link with the workshop.
Our mission: to bring to life an artisanal excellence, shaped by the hands of the maker and the nobility of the materials.
